From the 18-22 of November, 2019 the IUCN Cat Specialist Group organized a conservation planning workshop for jaguar in South America. All jaguar range countries in South America were represented, as well as the principal international NGOs working on jaguar conservation and San Diego Zoo Global. The goal of the workshop was to review the state of knowledge on jaguar in South America, including a critical assessment of the consistency of data and available data sources, the identification of important information gaps, and a summary of present conservation efforts and key players. The proceedings of the workshop will be published in 2020 as a special issue of Cat News.

During March 7-9, 2018 in Asunción, Paraguay my co- PI Marianela Velilla and I organized the symposium and workshop Developing a trans-boundary monitoring framework for the jaguar (Panthera onca) in the Southern Cone. This event, organized through Guyra Paraguay, and funded by the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT) of Paraguay, brought together jaguar researchers from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay to update the state of knowledge on jaguar ecology and conservation in the trans-boundary regions of the four countries, define shared conservation objectives, and to develop a research and monitoring framework to address data needs to meet those objectives. The results of the workshop will be published in Cat News in 2020.
